Looking to start a catering business? We can help!
Congratulations! After years of feeding your family and friends at large events, and being constantly told that you should start charging for your services, you decided to take their advice and become a professional event caterer. You’ve done your research and know that you’re entering a highly challenging profession, but you’re ready! You’re confident in your recipes, as well as your drive to satisfy your clients.
Our team at Don’s Supply has been partnering with caterers since 1969, and we offer a wide variety of catering equipment for sale, and catering supplies wholesale. We’ve helped Arkansas’ most successful caterers get started, and take a lot of pride in the small part that we’ve played in their success. We encourage you to visit our showroom at 9912 Interstate 30, and we’ll help you select the perfect equipment and supplies that you’ll need to start your business. We also offer a few basic tips that will help you maximize your success in your new catering venture:
Get everything in writing-There are still occasions when business deals can be made with a cup of coffee and a handshake. Unfortunately, caterers frequently find themselves subjected to clients that want to renegotiate their contract onsite, particularly if their turnout is less than expected. You can add contingencies to the contract to deal with unexpected guests or no-shows, but it’s ultimately the client’s responsibility to make accurate attendance estimates.
Do onsite walkthroughs-If you’re working at a new venue, you should schedule a time to see the areas where you will be preparing and serving food. You need to know what resources that you will and won’t have, how many electrical outlets that you will have, and any other logistics that you feel are relevant.
Be a creative problem solver-Any savvy caterer knows to ask in advance if any of the guests have special dietary requirements, but there are no guarantees that the client will remember everything. If you get put on the spot to provide a kosher meal, or you have surprise guests that are vegans, lactose intolerant, or have gluten allergies, your ability to accommodate them won’t go unnoticed.
